Revitalizing Ecology through Media (REM)
In the 1970s, a handful of passionate young people took it upon themselves to create a better world by “making ecology famous". This was the birth of Greenpeace, a movement fueled by the realization that if you want to change the world, you first have to bring what’s not working into clear view. Rex Weyler, one of Greenpeace’s founders and our core partner in Revitalizing Ecology through Media (REM), is a celebrated author, educator, and photojournalist who captured the iconic whale images that helped catalyze the modern environmental movement.
A half-century later, Wise Planet Media has partnered with Rex Weyler, Ecoversity, and world-renowned curriculum innovator, Worldlink, to launch a high-impact educational media campaign to reimagine the ecology movement for future generations. We are inspired collaborators, working with local and international environmental initiatives to help advance our collective missions through effective media.
Nature is non-partisan, and through visual storytelling, we seek to bridge divides and nurture societal resilience. Our REM program includes developing a free “Deep Ecology” curriculum for children in grades 4 - 12, and a nationwide school tour with Eco-mentors, allowing students to interact with ecology pioneers. We are developing a global livestream with celebrities reading from Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, as well as a social media campaign featuring excerpts from our library of interviews with visionary earth-keepers such as Vandana Shiva, Paul Hawken, Randy Hayes, and many Indigenous elders.
In addition to these programs, we are very excited to announce the centerpiece of REM’s media projects, the development of a scripted feature film based on the early days of Greenpeace, "Riders on the Storm”. This film is based on Rex Weyler’s book, Greenpeace: The Inside Story.
